About Me and Why I Know So Much About Websites

‘ello, I’m Krista and I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and tell announce the first topic I will be covering: Author Websites.

About Me

For over a decade I worked as a website developer. What that really boils down to is that for more than ten years I went to work every day and builSurprised redhead girl with laptop on yellow backgroundt websites. Most of the websites I worked on were far more complex than your average author website, but many of the concepts were the same. The most important thing is that I know the language of websites: HTML, CSS,

JavaScript, and PHP (among others). I consider myself a website guru.

After that decade-long career, I “retired” to be a writer and published my very first book. I have now published four books in a series with one more on the way. All four Self-Published.

Why Discuss Author Websites?

Three reasons:

  1. My passion (writing) + My skillset (web development) = Author Websites
  2. Author Websites and an online presence are very important in the digital age.
  3. Every time I hear someone say “I can’t do my own website,” I think, but could you if someone showed you how?

When I first embarked on the journey of Self-Publishing I knew nothing. It was only because of a wonderful support group of more knowledgeable Indie Authors and my own resourcefulness that managed to do it. I’m paying it forward.

To be honest, I know very little about marketing. I’m a self-taught cover designer. My performance on social media is marginal at best. But I do know websites.

Overwhelmed?

Does the prospect of building your own author websites terrify you? Don’t worry, I’ll take you through this one small step at a time. A lot of you will be able to get it. However, I know there are some of you that will still feel out of their depth. So, I’m compiling, and constantly updating, a list of resources for you.

My I just ask that you try? Try to do a website yourself, you might be surprised at your own abilities. Either way, if you try I promise that either you will succeed, or you will know for certain that you need to hire someone.

Speaking of hiring someone: My resources page will be useful for that too. Full disclosures: I’m launching a business to build websites for authors. So I do offer these services. But my primary concern is helping you help yourself.

A Side Note

Though I am targeting my posts and tutorials to Author Websites specifically, the information I will be sharing is applicable to many different areas, such as portfolio or resume websites. If you need help with a different area feel free to contact me and I’ll try to put something up on YouTube for you.

Conclusion

I know about websites and I want to help. So, is there anything you would like to know about websites? (Or about me, because I do like talking about myself.) Leave a comment or send me a message with your questions. And stay tuned for more about author websites.

Bye, and happy wording.
