Author Website Examples

While researching my post on examples of author websites I looked through authors I have read or that I know, and found a list of some good examples. In fact, I found so many that I had to stop looking. There were definitely too many to include in the blog post so I made this page to showcase them.

Because websites change over time, I have included screenshots so you can see what the site looked like at the time I created this page.

If you see an author site that you especially like, or has a cool or fun detail, let me know. (And just so you know, sending me a link to your website is totally allowed. Shameless self promotion is encouraged here.)

Kay P. Dawson is a writer that I know. When I was talking to her about compiling a list of example websites she proudly put hers up for me to consider. She made it herself using the Wix website builder. I wanted to include it here so that you can see how beautiful a site can be just using some well-chosen photos and a good template form a website building tool.

Of course, I really like that Kay built this site herself. But beyond that, I like the way that the colors work together and don’t clash with the cover. But at the same time, the cover stands out and draws the eye.

Janelle Daniels

Janelle Daniels is another author I know that said I could look at her website for a possible example. And you know what, it is beautiful. She did it herself using the Weebly website builder. My favorite thing about her site (other than the fact that she was able to do it herself) is the simple clean design. I also really like the logo and her tagline: “Dare to Romance.”

Shaela Kay

I love everything about Kay’s site. She built it herself using Weebly’s page editor. It is clean and elegant and beautiful to look at.

Maria Hoagland

Maria Hoagland

I have to admit it was the header on Hoagland’s website that really caught my eye. The clean and simple menu is something that I like to see on a website. Notice that the site was built on Weebly. And she has a lot of additional pages that not all author sites have. (Such as the Media Kit link). I’m always on the look out for new ideas for my own site and to use when I build sites for others.

Victorine Lieske

The background images on the home page are really great. The scrolling effect is cool too. Notice how the background image changes to match the genre of the book being displayed.

Rachel Renee Anderson

This one is just plain beautiful. I love the effect of the header with her name in two different fonts. I love the background and the white boxes for the content. And I give an A+ for a clean elegant design. This is one of my personal favorites from this list.

Rebecca Bellinston

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Rebecca Belliston

See how Belliston’s sight has a lot of images on the homepage but it doesn’t look messy or overwhelming! I love it. And when you load the page there are all these cool fade in type effects. It made me stop and go “OoooOoo” when I say it.

Anne Elisabeth Stengl

The thing I love about this author website is that the feel and color scheme of the website match the books. And I really like the header. Her books page is also stunning.

I love the background and clean design and layout of Nielsen’s website. It is very pleasing to the eye and the slideshow on the homepage is a great way to showcase her books.

Sarah M. Eden

The color palette on Eden’s website is amazing it compliments the cover she features on the home page. The transitions when you click on the menu is nice. Check out her about page. I love it so much.

Christopher Paolini

Notice the beautiful template on this site. It is very intricate and yet it does not overwhelm. You can still focus on the content of the website without being distracted by the design.

Lauren Oliver

Oliver’s website uses a simple and elegant design. I love the template and how the subtle background frames the website content.

Jessica Day George

My favorite thing about this website is how the books page is a) beautiful and b) the homepage. The color blocking with each containing a book is eye-catching and interesting.

Sarah J. Maas

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Sarah J. Maas
Snapshot of Maas’s website from April 2nd, 2018

With the black background and colorful sections, everything on Maas’s site pops. Try scrolling through her pages to see how your eye is drawn to the important information on the page.

Nathan Van Coops

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Several of the websites I looked at while gathering examples for this page had pop-ups that asked you to join your newsletter. I found this mildly annoying. But Coops’ includes the “call to action” of subscribing to his newsletter at the top of his homepage. It is the first thing we see but it is not an annoying pop-up. And just look at that background, how it matches the book.

Nichole Giles

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Nichole Giles
Snapshot of Giles’s website from April 3rd, 2018

I’m a little biased about this one because I designed and built it. I used Weebly’s free theme Cento and did most of the image editing myself. Nichole Giles is a good friend of mine and she let me kind of take the wheel and do what I wanted. I think it really turned out amazing. On top of that, it was really fun. I want to point out that I did very little custom coding for this site. So it is something that even a non-techy person should be able to build with a little knowledge of Weebly. Note: I have been having increasing issues dealing with Weebly. I’m able to make it do what I want when I build sites but I have to use a lot of custom code or buy apps. So I recommend going with WordPress or Wix unless you are already familiar with Weebly or find it that it clicks for you.
